Keeping It Classic: Traditional Wicker Styles

We're spending March getting ready for spring and summer weather! Last week we dove into modern wicker styles and this week, we'll break down our more traditional wicker options.

Often when we hear the word "wicker" we're taken back to a memory. Maybe it's rocking on the front porch, maybe it's your grandmother's house, maybe it's the chipped paint or the cracking wood. Whatever it may be, we can all agree that wicker has been around for awhile!

Traditionally, wicker was made of wood and known for being sturdy, yet light. While it was attractive and practical, it could be hard to maintain! Eventually paint would start to peel and sections of the weave would unravel. But even so, we still love it today! Why? Because it's a classic!

While in this decade many wicker sets are made from synthetic materials - like resin - that eliminate some of the maintenance issues, they've still kept to their traditional style: rounded backs and arms, knobbed feet, tight weave, and braided trim. During those hot, humid southern summers, the breathable furniture always provided a space to catch a cool breeze (at least, try to!) or catch up with friends. These characteristics have stood the test of time and created a classic style that we all gravitate back to at some point.
